A change is in the air...

Ain't it great when the first winds of fall get here to help snuff out the fire of the eternal Texas summers? I personally like hot weather, but for whatever the reason, age, an unusually hot summer or something else, this year I was ready. I opened the windows in the bedroom and smiled at having to use the bed cover or the sheet for the first time in months.

But the real reason that the arrival of fall makes me smile is, hunting season. Oh yeah, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, bitter, religion clingin', gun totin', red blooded Texan for sure. Besides comfort, the things that come to mind when the wind shifts out of the north, is football and hunting. My boys and I have been bird hunting and even though there weren't a lot of birds on the wing, we had a blast. Opening day, for the 2010 season, is less than 72 hours away and I couldn't be happier. I've been in my portable blind taking "practice" shots with my bow, my .50 caliber rifle is all sited in and my hunting partner Terri, who is also my lovely wife and I are making plans to get into the woods in a week or so. There's nothing quite like the still and quiet of the woods. Just getting out there has a calming effect on my nature.

So keep safe out there my hunting brothers and sisters and may the time you're outdoors be grand and may you fill each of your tags...

Happy Hunting Season, Texas...

Living arrangments..

Well, we walked away from the home we were going to buy. It seems it had way more damage to it than it "showed" or that the owners led us to believe was there. It was heartbreaking. It was the perfect place for us. A small house with a large building for our "stuff".

But fate/God has a way of rewarding you, if you believe that way. And I believe that God put us through that for a very specific reason..to check every place over very, very closely before you commit time, money or effort. So, lesson learned Lord...lead us on to the place You want us to have!!!!!

Everyone likes a reunion...

So, we had our family reunion this last weekend. The first real reunion for our family in nearly 20 years. It went off like gangbusters. Everyone had a blast and we all can't wait until next year. We had a blast.

I saw cousins I haven't seen since the last reunion. Sad how that works. We can get together for a day or so once a year, but we can't find the time or make the effort to get together during the year. My how the times have changed...
